The Independent‘s Caitlin Hornik interviewed Judy Benjamin and Dr. Dale Bredesen about the remarkable story behind her coast-to-coast walk across the United States — a 3,000-mile journey to prove that cognitive decline, even Alzheimer’s, can be reversed.

Diagnosed at age 67 after noticing troubling memory lapses and a brain scan showing amyloid plaque buildup, Benjamin feared the same fate as her mother and uncles who had suffered from Alzheimer’s. “I knew that it was going downhill really quickly,” she told The Independent, describing her deep distress at the time.

Her turning point came when she connected with Dr. Dale Bredesen, a neurologist and Chief Science Officer of Apollo Health, who had developed the ReCODE protocol — a personalized approach targeting the underlying drivers of cognitive decline.
