Tackling Alzheimer’s at Its Root: Dr. Dale Bredesen on The Metabolic Link

On a recent episode of The Metabolic Link podcast, host Victoria Field spoke with neurologist and researcher Dr. Dale Bredesen about his groundbreaking approach to treating Alzheimer’s disease. More than 7 million Americans are currently living with the disease, and that number is expected to double by 2050. He stressed the need to move beyond single-drug treatments that only slow decline.
Dr. Bredesen explained that Alzheimer’s stems from multiple factors, not one cause. His ReCODE Protocol targets issues such as poor metabolic health, inflammation, infections, and toxin exposure, resulting in sustained cognitive improvement that lasts over a decade.
He emphasized the importance of early detection, recommending that adults over 35 check biomarkers such as p-tau217, GFAP, and NFL, which can indicate risk years before symptoms appear. Lifestyle strategies, including nutrient-rich diets, regular exercise, quality sleep, stress reduction, and toxin avoidance, also play a crucial role in prevention.
Despite skepticism from parts of the mainstream medical community, Dr. Bredesen pointed to published studies and patient success stories as evidence of genuine hope. “Cognitive decline should be rare,” he said.
