Supporting Brain Health Through ReCODE Coaching

In this episode of Health Coach Talk, podcast host and the Founder and CEO of the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA), Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum, spoke with Chris Coward, Vice President of Coaching Services for Apollo Health, and Julie Luby, a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach and ReCODE 2.0–trained coach. They discussed the specialized role of health coaches trained in the ReCODE (Reversal of Cognitive Decline) program, which is based on the research of Dr. Dale Bredesen.
Luby shares her path to specializing in cognitive health after her father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis and describes her work with individuals and care partners addressing risk factors such as toxic exposures, metabolic issues, and lifestyle factors. Coward outlines Apollo Health’s advanced coach training, which is designed for already-certified health coaches and includes in-depth education, ongoing monthly meetings, and mentoring. Both noted the differences between general health coaching and working with clients experiencing or at risk for cognitive decline, including the need for additional education and frequent collaboration with care partners.
They highlight opportunities for ReCODE-trained coaches to work one-on-one, in groups, within medical practices, or in prevention-focused coaching. Case examples illustrate improvement in cognition and quality of life for clients who commit to the protocol. The conversation also covers the importance of ongoing professional support, access to educational resources, and the benefits of connecting with a community of specialized coaches.
